On March 15th, the Advertising Photographers of America (APA) delivered a twenty-two page document to the House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property regarding Orphan Works, the proposed amendment to the 1976 Copyright Act. The document, The Orphan Works Dilemma: Challenges and Recommendations was drafted by past president Jeff Sedlik, APA Chief Advisor on Copyright and edited by Constance Evans, APA National Executive Director.
A letter accompanying the document states, "If this amendment is enacted into law without significant revisions, it has the very real potential to destroy the businesses and livelihoods of thousands of artists, cost thousands of jobs, and result in a massive wave of litigation related to the use of orphan works. In it current form, this amendment is a disaster in the making." The letter was signed by George Fulton, National President of APA, Jeff Sedlik who is also President and CEO of the PLUS Coalition and Constance Evans, APA National Executive Director.
More on APA's position can be found here as well as a PDF of the APA paper.
