Picade LLC, a stock and assignment photo agency owned entirely by its contributing photographers has officially opened for business. Legally established in Illinois, the Company is a growing international enterprise, currently with forty-three professional photographers in nine countries from New Zealand to the United Arab Emirates. Focused on rights-manage stock imagery covering a broad range of editorial and commercial styles, Picade is also uniquely positioned to quickly fulfill photo assignments through its global network of experienced photographers.
Picade can trace its roots to a posting made by industry veteran and founding photographer Brian Seed on the Stock Artists Alliance forum in 2006. He said that photographers should stop complaining about the increasingly bad contracts being offered by the big agencies and do something about it by starting their own photo agency. The ensuing discussion resulted in the forum moderator asking that the topic be taken off-list. It was, and soon nearly two dozen people coalesced into Picade LLC. More have come onboard over the past two years. For photographers, Picade offers a better than fifty percent commission on image licenses, a voice in the company, and the opportunity to share in the company's profits as a co-owner.
Picade believes photo researchers and media buyers will respond enthusiastically to a well-vetted roster of photographers and a tightly edited collection of their images, many being exclusive to the archive.
