 A couple of years ago, when we first starting hearing about Blogs (weblogs) and Blogging I, like many, jumped on the bandwagon and started my own blog called "Adventures in Pixelland". This was sort of an online journal of my personal journey from film to digital photography, along with some diversions along the way into video, web design, writing and programming among other things. While the blog did OK and it was fun, I just couldn't spend the time making it visible to all the potential readers out there. I was too busy building World of Stock, the small stock photo agency I now spend most of my time operating and growing.
You likely know there are plenty of great resources out there that focus on various aspects of the business of photography and plenty of experts with far more experience than my own. To date however I've struggled to find one that does a really good job of tying all of the various pieces together. Then along came StockPhotographer.info...
Jim, Theo and others have done a marvelous job in a very short time of putting together this great resource and from what I've seen it's only going to get better going forward. It's so refreshing to see a resource which brings together photographers, agencies and buyers into an environment where open thought and discussion is not encumbered by a few with very strong opinions. Now, at last there is a great outlet for some of those articles that either never got written or never got noticed in the blog.
Look for upcoming articles geared towards the trends and challenges within the stock photography industry, some tips for photographers wondering how to break in and some insight into web trends and technologies that are shaping the future direction. I'll do my best to provide you with options as well as help you avoid some common pitfalls.
The streets and avenues of Pixelland don't always point North to South and East to West. Some roads stretch to the horizon, or even merge together into superhighways seemingly lined with gold. Others however, lead to an abrupt dead end that force us to backtrack to again find our way. The pace of change is mind blowing. I for one am looking forward to continuing the adventure, despite the occasional wrong turn.
