Some of my photos of landscapes are taken on “cloudless” days. Well I want clouds! Here is how I do it.

This is the photo I want to add clouds to

 Image

And this is the image I will use to add the clouds from.

Image

On my grass layer I added a layer above the background. (Ctrl + J)

Image

Choose the clone tool.

Image

On the clouds image, choose a portion you would like to clone onto the grass image. Hold down the ALT key and click with the mouse.

Image

Switch to the grass image, and begin to paint in the clouds. ….Don’t over do it.

Image

Double click the layer that has the clouds cloned in.

Image

This will bring up the “Layer Style” palette.

Image

Move the black triangle to the right as shown below.

Image

Note the clouds now look kind of funky.

Image

Look closely at the triangle. It’s really in two parts, a right and a left split down the middle. We want to bring the left part of the triangle BACK to the left.

Image

To accomplish this hold the ALT key while dragging the left portion of the triangle back to the left.

Image

This allows for a smooth transition from the layer above (the clouds layer) to the layer below (the grassy layer)

Image

Now save as a JPG image and you're done.

Gee, I hope those weren’t rain clouds I put in.
