Multi-year agreement with Getty Images announced
April 19, 2007 (Morrisville, NC) — (Raleigh, NC) Lulu.com, the
premier online marketplace that provides a platform to create, buy,
sell and control digital content on demand announces a multi-year
agreement with Getty Images, the world’s leading creator and
distributor of visual content. Beginning summer 2007, authors, creators
and organizations will have access to portions of Getty Images’
royalty-free collections to enhance and monetize their original works
while protecting and compensating copyright holders.
Getty Images’ collections offer a diverse range of concepts and
subject matter including business, education, healthcare, nature and
travel. New content will be added on a continuing basis to ensure
Lulu.com users have the freshest and most relevant imagery. All images
are available under a flexible royalty- free licensing model on a per
image, per use basis. Every time an item containing a licensed image is
sold at the Lulu.com Marketplace, the usage fee for the image is
included in the selling price and collected from the buyer. “Creators
of all sorts, from companies, to authors, to hobbyists, to non-profits
have been looking for higher quality images to incorporate into their
creations whether these are technical manuals, novels, photo books or
calendars,” said Bob Young CEO of Lulu.com. “Our partnership with Getty
Images will empower Lulu creators to not only have access to this
content, but to use it to make their creations more marketable.” “Getty
Images is committed to providing all creative professionals in all
segments and markets the broadest range of visual content available for
use across all platforms,” said Duncan Beard, Sales Director, Channel
Sales at Getty Images. “As a content partner with Lulu.com, we are
excited to broaden the visibility of our world –class imagery to an
entirely new group of creative professionals while ensuring protection
from unauthorized use.” Lulu.com’s
proprietary system for protecting licensed imagery through the creative
process by marrying the high resolution image to the created work just
prior to production is an innovative approach to resolve many of the
digital rights management issues users are challenged with today. The
advantage of the alliance between Lulu and Getty Images empowers
individuals with tools previously made available only to corporations
and/or publishers. Available Lulu products will include: cover
gallery, typesetting functionality to place images within books, photo
books and calendars.
