Hindsight's METAmachine

Richard Weisgrau, who writes our "All About Business" column has been evaluating Hindsight's METAmachine. Designed by Jim Cook, the developer of Hindsight software, METAmachine is a browsing utility program that streamlines the process of writing keywords, licenses and other essential metadata to images, either singly or in batches.

Richard enthusiastically states, "I have previously used Photo Mechanic, iView Media Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Aperture for writing metadata. While adequate, none of them come up to the ease of use of this new software. I love it. It can do batch and individual processing, applying stored keywords, categories, and sub-categories along with all other ITPC data."

METAmachine  incorporates the same keywording system that is built into HindSightÂ’s StockView software and reads and writes XMP formatted metadata in TIFF, JPEG, PSD and DNG images. The program also provides a workplace to build a catalog of licenses for your images providing unambiguous protection against misuse.

Richard Weisgrau also stated, "My educated guess is that when I have fully mastered it I will cutting the time spent on the chores it facilitates by as much as 30%, and the great interface really helps reduce eye strain compared to other programs. It will pay back its $99 cost in time saved in short order."

METAmachine is currently available only for Macintosh OS X but hopefully we will soon see a version available for all of us poor Windows users.
