Danita Delimont- CEO, Danita Delimont Stock Photography

The stock photography industry has endured an incredible amount of change since 1980 when Danita Delimont first started as an independent agent for Wolfgang Kaehler. In 2000, Danita started Danita Delimont Stock Photography, which specializes in worldwide travel, nature, and lifestyle, images. As the National President of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP), from 2000-2001 she was propelled into the forefront of the photo industry and her expertise was sought by many including numerous photographers. Danita has also worked with the North American Nature Photographer's Association (NANPA) and is a member of the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA). With all of this experience Danita brings a wealth of knowledge to the photo industry.

It is for these reasons that we invited Danita to be interviewed by Jim Hunter. Danita graciously accepted our invitation and what follows should make for some interesting reading.

Quentin Bargate, principal photographer to Barleigh Stock

Stock photography can be a part time activity for some people. Even highly trained and successful professionals in other fields are engaged in shooting stock.

Quentin Bargate is a photographer undertaking commercial, landscape, botanical, portrait, food and general photography from his studios based in North Essex, England.
Quentin is a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) and a consultant and principal photographer to Barleigh Stock, a new online stock photo library.
Quentin is also a Principal of Quentin Bargate & Co and a trained shipping lawyer, holding a Master’s degree in Marine law and Policy, and having worked in shipping law since 1983.

Quentin was interviewed by Theodoros Papageorgiou with questions regarding his involvement, perspective and experiences with the stock photography field.

Agefotostock Alfonso's torrential, direct and sometimes provocative speech along with his extensive stock industry experience and insight make this interview a very useful and easy read. Alfonso was interviewed by Theodoros Papageorgiou with questions aimed to shed some light on areas that puzzle many full time and part time stock photographers.

Theodoros Papageorgiou: Tell us a little of how and when did you became involved in stock photography.

Alfonso Gutierrez: I started in photography from the chemistry side of it: I was 13 years old when I was developing images that I took with an Agfa 6x9 camera my father had. The chemistry aspect of the processing was what caught my eye. Consequently, I was taking photographs to be able to process and experiment with the results. While I was studying to get my chemistry degree I was not abandoning my interest and I was consistently experimenting with the color photography chemistry of that time with such old emulsions as Anscochrome and later with Ektachrome E-1; those early times were actually interesting and lots of fun. It was not until the early 60's that the creative part of photography captured my attention; since then I'm still here shooting and editing.

Steve Smith, World of Stock

Steve Smith owns and operates World of Stock , which is headquartered near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. World of Stock is one of the new generation start-up agencies and prides itself on both its customer support and the way in which they treat their international contingent of photographers. Steve even goes so far as to personally answer questions from any of his current or potential contributors.

Steve also writes and is a regular contributor to Digital Photographer and other magazines .

Steve graciously agreed to take some time away from his busy schedule to take part in an e-mail interview with Jim Hunter which, was conducted on January 10, 2006.
